If you want to transport a caravan whose mass exceeds the one you are entitled to tow, you will have to pass an additional driving test. Weight of most caravans exceeds 750kg!
Transporting a caravan on your own is not always possible. Sometimes a caravan is no longer capable of travelling very long distances, or you do not have enough time to go all the way to deliver it. In these cases you can hire a company that will take the burden off you and deal with the transportation. They usually tow or use a car carrier to do it.
Things to do before hiring a transport company:
- Make sure that you know the exact size of the caravan (weight, height, width, length)
- Decide which type of transportation would be the most suitable for you
- Ensure that your caravan has an up-to-date insurance
- Inform the hauler about the condition of the caravan – its brakes, lights and tyres

You may not know the exact dimensions of your caravan, but it is important to get at least some approximate measurements. The dimensions are usually within these ranges:
- Height: from 6’1” to 9’2”
- Length: from 19’6” to 25’3”
- Width: around 7’7”
- Weight: from 1100kg to 1590kg
