Tips for preparing for transportation

Household appliances transportation

Household appliances is a truly wide category of things, which influences what's the best means to shield them for shipment as well as the smartest method of transporting them. We could roughly divide household devices into two subcategories, both with individual smartest way of transportation – small household appliances as well as big household appliances. In the first subcategory you will place every device that could easily fit into a regular car, for example: microwaves, blenders, juice makers, toasters, boiling pots and so on. These items you could without much effort ship in your personal vehicle – either on one of the seats or in car booth. Small household appliances are also less breakable during transportation than the large household devices. In the big household devices subgroup you will find devices like: fridges, washers, washing machines, tumble-driers and so on. None of them may be successfully shipped in a passenger car and therefore has to be entrusted to professionals.

No matter which household device you have to transport, when it comes to securing your cargo for the time of transportation, there are a few guidelines that are universal for every appliance. Firstly, it is safest to ship devices in their original boxes. These boxes are best fitted to the dimensions of the device which can help to minimize the threat of any jolts during transportation damaging your cargo. To be very safe, you should fill all the empty spaces with Styrofoam or bubble foil. When it comes to minor household appliances, following these rules should be enough to ensure their painless journey. However for large household appliances there are a couple additional things to remember.

Ahead of beginning to prepare your appliances for the transportation, you need to take out all the removable parts as well as transport them individually. That concerns all the shelves as well as drawers (from freezers, mainly) and baskets (in dishwashers). During transportation, they would be especially exposed to jolts, which can damage either them or the appliance. Which is why it is safer to take them out of the device, enclose them in some bubble foil and ship individually.

After that you should secure the doors and all the cords and water lines. Make sure that your device is dry, as any leaking on the road might damage it irreversibly. If you have to ship a washing machine, it is wise to secure the drum, to prevent it from moving on the road. The drum is the most delicate part of the washing machine but a crucial one – harming the drum usually means that you will need a new washing machine. The next point is, as mentioned before, securing the doors. Even if you are convinced that the doors won’t open during the whole journey, you should nonetheless secure it with some tape to be certain it really cannot open during transportation. There is a number of circumstances on the road that can require a driver to unexpectedly turn or brake and you must be positive that the appliances stay closed even then. Doors that haven’t been suitably secured are easily breakable as the hinges are often quite fragile. When the doors are closed safely, you must consider cords and water lines. They should stay connected to the appliance (especially if you don’t have any expert knowledge about assembling household devices), however you should tie them together (for example with some cord) to prevent them from getting tangled.

When the doors as well as cables of your appliances are secured, you need to protect your load from dents and scratches. Tha
