Can't recommend Dominik enough. Our furniture went super smooth from Ireland to Germany. It was a superb service and any change of plan on our side was met with a perfect solution on his end and never ending patience.

Tips for preparing for transportation

Furniture transportation

If you are in the process of moving to your new house or changing the decor it is likely you’ll look for furniture shipping at some point. Whether we’re talking about furniture you already posses or recently bought furniture straight from shop, furniture transportation is always a challenge. Naturally the kind of furniture in need of shipment matters – shelves as well as bedside tables could be transported in regular car, however a bookcase or a kitchen table could become an issue. When you have a van at your disposal, you may attempt to transport the furniture yourself, however in most cases you’ll need help from a transport provider. If you are searching for a solid solution that will also be affordable, try using a transport marketplace, like Clicktrans.

Securing furniture for transportation

When you need to move your furniture, there are rules you should follow, when it comes to preparing them for transportation. Firstly, remember to remove all the contents from the furniture – even if the items inside are light. Jolts and shocks are almost impossible to avoid during transportation and all of the items roaming freely within your furniture might damage it. Besides empty furniture will be easier to load.

Disassemble every part that you can – if your furniture may be safely disassembled and shipped in pieces, that’s the best way to transport it. A bed in parts will also be more simple to fit in a van. The major disadvantage of shipping furniture in pieces is that the disassembling can be time-consuming, as unskilfully dismantled furniture might be hard or downright impossible to reassemble after transportation. Other than that – you must be extra careful when shipping small parts (screws etc.). It’s safer to transport them together, e.g. in a Ziploc bag.

There is furniture (especially antiques) that cannot be dismantled and must be shipped in one piece. What’s the best way to ship them securely? The possibility that you will find a box suitable to fit an armchair is rather small, however there are other ways to secure your cargo for the shipping. When securing furniture for shipment bubble foil will be essential. Wrap all the fragile elements and all the corners in bubble foil to save your load from damaging if anything bumps into it on the road. If you don’t have bubble wrap, you may also use cardboard to protect the corners.

If your furniture has some extra fragile elements (for example containing glass or delicate fabrics) you ought to take extra care during shipment. When you can, it’s best to transport them independently, wrapped in protective layers of cloth as well as bubble foil (every glass element should be shipped that way). If it’s a part of furniture that cannot be disassembled, enclose it in extra layers of bubble foil. Don’t forget to inform the hauler that he’s transporting fragile cargo.

Like we’ve mentioned before, most of the time you will require help with transporting furniture. When looking for a hauler it’s good to determine if he offers assistance with loading and unloading. Remember to specify from which floor they should be taken and to which floor they should be moved – as well as if there is an elevator
