Tips for preparing for transportation

How to organize a removal?

Moving to a new house is among the most common happenings we can come across in our days. And despite the fact we move averagely a few times before settling for good, removals are still among the most nerve-wracking happenings possible. Just figuring out the logistics of transporting all your belongings between houses is an enormous task and when you add securing your belongings for transportation, unpacking and choosing the right hauler to help you with the move, it becomes truly huge and very stressful. Luckily there are couple of things you can do to make the move as simple as possible as well as significantly less nerve-wracking.

Packing as well as securing your items for the time of the removal

The most important thing you should remember while preparing for the removal is that you should create a clear plan that you’ll have to stick to during the move. It is smart to create an inventory of every item you want transported. Such a list will not only make the packing easier but additionally will allow you to make sure that all your belongings were successfully shipped to its place of destination. Removal entails transporting a big amount of various items, among them a big amount of small items that can be easily misplaced when packed in a hurry – a list will help you make sure they all made it to your new home safely. Another crucial step is tagging all the cardboards as clearly as you can. One of the most common methods of tagging cardboards is by category. So all the kitchen supplies and appliances go into boxes tagged ‘kitchen’, all the duvets as well as jewellery in the box labelled ‘bedroom’ etc. You’ll see how time-saving tagging can be once you get to the unpacking part. Remember to tag both sides and the top of the box, to make sure that you (and the hauler) will be able to recognize which cardboard goes where, regardless of how they will be stacked in the shipping vehicle.

Be extra careful when preparing to transport fragile goods. Enclose them in protective layers of fabric as well as bubble wrap and label them in an easily visible place (together with a “This way up” label). You should also make sure that the hauler knows that he’ll be shipping delicate cargo and which cardboards requires handling with caution.

When it comes to furniture, it’s imperative to take everything out of them before the removal and transport everything that was inside individually. Any unattached items in cupboards or drawers could damage your furniture during transportation. Additionally it is good to close all the furniture doors and drawers with some tape so that they cannot open during shipment. You can use ordinary Scotch tape for that. There is also a matter of loading the furniture inside the shipping vehicle. Before attempting to move your furniture from the house, be certain that they will fit via front doors, stairways or into the elevator (if your old apartment has one). If so, you can transport them without dismantling (find at least one person to help you!). If they can’t, disassembling them is the sole way to transport them without harm. Be cautious with that – make sure you store all the pins as well as screws in one place for example in a Ziploc bag and that you’ve secured all the elements of the furniture properly. Disassembling furniture is also a good idea when you need to fill the shipping car to the maximum, as dismantled furniture will take a lot less place.

Whenever securing smaller items, such as books, tableware, decorations and much more, cardboards will be the most efficien
