Tips for preparing for transportation

Furniture transportation

If you are moving to your new house or redecorating your place it’s possible you’ll look for furniture shipping at some point. Regardless of whether we’re talking about your old furniture on removal or brand new furniture, furniture shipping is always a challenge. Naturally it depends on what kind of furniture needs transportation – shelves or bedside tables could fit inside your car, but a bookcase or a kitchen table will likely become an issue. If you have a van at your disposal, you can ship the furniture yourself, but if you don’t, you’ll need assistance from a transport provider. In search for a trustworthy service that won’t cost a fortune, try using a transport marketplace, for example Clicktrans.

Preparing furniture for transportation

When you need to move your furniture, there are a couple of steps you might like to follow, when it comes to securing them for transportation. First of all, don’t forget to remove all the contents from the furniture – even if the items inside seem light. Some jolts and vibrations are inevitable during transportation and all of the items roaming uncontrollably within your furniture may damage it. Not to mention that furniture without any content will be lighter and therefore easier to move.

Dismantle what you can – if your furniture can be dismantled without damage and shipped in pieces, that’s the best way to ship it. A table in pieces will also be more simple to place inside of a van. The main disadvantage of such a solution is that the disassembling can be time-consuming, as unskilfully disassembled furniture can be hard or downright impossible to reassemble after transportation. Also – it’s good to be extra careful with small parts (like pins or screws). It’s best to ship them separately, e.g. in a Ziploc bag.

There is furniture (especially antiques) that cannot be disassembled and ought to be shipped as a whole. How to ship them safely? Chance that you have a box suitable to fit an armchair is rather small, but there are other ways to secure it for the time of transportation. When securing furniture for shipment bubble foil is of significant value. Wrap all the delicate elements as well as every corner with bubble wrap to prevent your load from damaging if anything crashes into it on the road. If you don’t have bubble wrap, you may also use cardboard to protect the corners.

When you’re transporting furniture with some extra delicate elements (for example containing glass or delicate fabrics) you ought to be especially careful while transporting it. If it’s possible, it’s best to ship them separately, enclosed in protective layers of cloth or bubble foil (all glass shelves should be shipped that way). If it’s a part of furniture that can’t be dismantled, enclose it in additional layers of bubble foil. Don’t forget to tell the transport provider that he’s transporting delicate cargo.

As was mentioned above, most of the time you will require help with shipping furniture. While searching for a hauler it’s smart to determine if he offers help with loading as well as unloading. Don’t forget to mention the floor they should be taken from and the floor they must be transported to – and if there is
