Tips for preparing for transportation

How to organize a removal?

Moving to a new house is one of the most ordinary situations we can encounter in our life. And despite the fact we change the place we live in averagely a few times in our lifetime, removals are still among the most trying situations possible. Just figuring out the logistics of transporting all your belongings between houses is an enormous task and when you add packing, unpacking and choosing the suitable company to assist you with the move, it seems truly huge and quite nerve-wracking. Fortunately there are couple of things you can do to make the move as simple as can be and considerably less stressful.

Packing and securing your items for the time of the removal

The most important tip you need to remember while preparing for the removal is that you need a precise list of steps that you will abide by through the whole process. It is good to make a list of all the things you want transported. Such a list can not only help you pack but additionally will allow you to check if all of your things were successfully shipped to its place of destination. Removal entails transporting a great deal of various items, among them a lot of small items that are easily misplaced when packed in a hurry – an inventory will help you make sure they all arrived to the place of destination safely. Another important step is tagging all the boxes as clearly as you are able to. One of the most useful methods of labelling boxes is by category. So all the kitchen supplies as well as devices should be placed into cardboards tagged ‘kitchen’, all the duvets as well as jewellery in the cardboards labelled ‘bedroom’ and so on. You’ll quickly find out how time-saving tagging can be once you get to the unpacking part. Remember to tag both sides and the top of the box, so that you (and the hauler) will be able to recognize which box goes where, regardless of how they will be stacked in the transporting vehicle.

Take special care when preparing to transport delicate goods. Enclose them in protective layers of fabric as well as bubble wrap and then tag them clearly (together with a “This way up” sign). You also need to ensure that the hauler knows that he’ll be transporting delicate load and which boxes requires handling with care.

When it comes to furniture, it’s important to empty them prior to the removal and transport all the things inside separately. Any unattached things inside closets and cabinets can harm your furniture during transportation. It’s also good to secure all the furniture doors and drawers with some tape to make sure they won’t open on the road. You may use ordinary Scotch tape for that. Another issue is the matter of putting the furniture into the transporting vehicle. Before trying to move your furniture from the apartment, be certain that they will fit through the front doors, stairways and into the elevator (if your old apartment has one). If so, you can move them without disassembling (make sure that you have at least 1 person to help you!). If they can’t, disassembling them is the sole way to ship them without harm. Be cautious with that – be sure to have all the pins as well as screws gathered like in a Ziploc bag and that you’ve secured all the parts of the furniture properly. Disassembling furniture is also a good idea whenever you want to fill the transporting car to the maximum, as disassembled furniture will take a lot less place.

When securing smaller things, such as books, kitchen appliances, cosmetics and so on, boxes will be the smartest choice. It’s very possible that you will need more box
