Tips for preparing for transportation

How to organize a removal?

Moving to a new house is one of the most ordinary situations we can experience in our days. And despite the fact we move averagely a few times before settling for good, removals are still some of the most stressful situations possible. Just working out the organization of transporting everything you have from one place to another is an enormous task and when you add securing your belongings for transportation, unpacking and selecting the right hauler to help you with removal, it seems truly huge as well as quite stressful. Luckily there are couple of things you can do to make the move as efficient as possible and considerably less stressful.

Packing and securing your belongings for shipment

The most important tip you need to remember while preparing for the removal is that you need a coherent plan that you’ll have to abide by through the whole process. It is smart to create an inventory of all the things you want to ship. Such a list can not only make the packing easier but additionally will allow you to check if all of your things were safely transported to your new home. Removal entails transporting a big amount of stuff, among them a lot of small things that are easily misplaced under the pressure of time – an inventory will help you check if they all arrived to your new home safely. Another crucial step is tagging all the cardboards as clearly as you can. One of the most useful ways of labelling boxes is by category. So all the kitchen accessories as well as appliances should be placed into boxes tagged ‘kitchen’, all the duvets and personal items in the cardboards tagged ‘bedroom’ and so on. You’ll see how much time labelling can save once you get to the unpacking part. Remember to tag both sides and the top of the cardboard, so that you (as well as the transport provider) can be sure which box goes where, regardless of how they will be stacked inside the transporting vehicle.

Take special care when preparing to transport delicate things. Enclose them in protective layers of textiles and bubble foil and then label them in an easily visible place (together with a “This way up” label). You also need to ensure that the transport provider is aware that he’ll be shipping fragile load as well as which cardboards requires handling with care.

When you are shipping furniture, it’s crucial to take everything out of them prior to the removal and transport all the things inside separately. Any loose things in cupboards and drawers could damage your furniture during shipment. It’s also good to secure all the furniture doors and drawers using tape so that they won’t open during shipment. You can use regular Scotch tape to do that. There is also a matter of putting the furniture into the shipping vehicle. Ahead of trying to move your furniture from the apartment, make sure that they will fit via front doors, stairways or into the elevator (if your old apartment has one). If they do, you’ll be able to transport them without disassembling (make sure that you have at least 1 person to help you!). If they can’t, disassembling them is the sole way to ship them safely. Be cautious with that – be sure to store all the nails as well as bolts in one place for example in a Ziploc bag and that you’ve secured all the elements of the furniture sufficiently. Disassembling furniture is also a good idea when you want to use the shipping car to the maximum, because disassembled furniture will take a lot less place.

Whenever packing minor items, such as magazines, tableware, decorations etc., boxes will be the most o
