Yachts transportation

Shipping a sailing boat takes special supplies as well as careful preparation. A sailing boat is an extremely prone to damage as well as valuable cargo. Possible damages (which can be pretty simple to get) could badly lower the yacht’s value. This is the reason it is smart to hire skilled transport provider to transport a yacht – his experience as well as skills will serve as insurance that shipped yacht will arrive at its destination without any problems.

However even if you hire a transport provider to transport a yacht, you need to do a few things yourself. First of all, measure the exact dimensions of your yacht. You can base on the information given by the manufacturer, but it is always safer to measure the boat personally, because even small disparities in size can cause the transport to be harder and in some cases even impossible. You should check 3 different dimensions when looking for a hauler for your yacht: the length, the height and the beam. Length of the sailing boat should be measured from the bow all the way to the transom. The sailing boat length shouldn’t contain any attachments, e.g. an outboard motor. The height of the yacht is measured between the keel and the highest point of the boat. As for the beam – it is checked where the boat is widest, which usually means near the middle of the vessel.

Please, note that giving the transport provider the right size of the yacht does not only affect the security of the shipment but additionally its cost. More than that, it may also affect the time of a day the transportation can occur – as there are countries where the boats above a certain size may not be allowed to be transported by the road in certain times of a day.

Of course, the safest way to transport a sailing boat is by using a dedicated boat trailer or a semitrailer (depending on the size of the boat). If you decide to get help from a hauler, you don’t need to worry about proper way to secure it – the hauler will be obliged to take care of that. When searching for a right transport provider for the job, make sure he has a carrier liability insurance, that will entitle you to demand a repayment in case anything happens to your boat in transportation.

The cost of yacht transportation largely hinges on the size of the boat and how long the route is. Among the price-defining factors you may also find the weather – harsh weather conditions may cause the boat to damage. If your boat may be shipped in uncertain weather conditions, the hauler will have to secure it properly, and it may raise the price of the transportation.
