Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually associated with great deal of problems, but actually it is much easier than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular type of caravan. It has four strong walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might differ in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, however in most cases it provides pretty convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative in case you need to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car , moreover it often contains the most basic equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large living space however offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, which helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as extra expandable section on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a perfect spot to place additional beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types mentioned before, but thanks to having all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and affordable way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – it depends on whether you have enough time to drive necessary route and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you want to hire a transport company to move your caravan, check if you know the exact measurements of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, instruct the hauler about state of the caravan – like whether brakes are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the procedures concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of cargo}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely pay less.
