Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often associated with great deal of problems, but actually it is much easier than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, remember to check if your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual type of caravan. This type has four sturdy walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might differ in length as well as in the number of rooms, yet generally it provides pretty comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative if you might want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by most of the cars and often includes the most basic equipment, such as shower or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable amount of living space however offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out area on the ends of the van, which creates a perfect spot to place extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types described before, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable and budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to drive necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

If you choose to find a transport provider to move your caravan, double-check if you have the exact dimensions of the caravan. Moreover check if its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, instruct the transport provider about state of the caravan – for example whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Price of shipping a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you are likely to get cheaper price.
