Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often correlated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. It has four strong walls and a full height rood. It can differ in length and in the number of rooms, however generally it ensures pretty satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine choice in case you want to lower the costs. It may be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually includes most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and extra expandable section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which creates a convienient area to fit extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

E Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types mentioned before, but thanks to having all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient and budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to drive needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you choose to hire a shipping provider to move your caravan, make sure you give them the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, instruct the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport providers frequently invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you will likely get cheaper price.
