Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually correlated with great deal of difficulties, but in fact it is much less difficult than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, remember to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has 4 strong walls as well as a full height rood. It might differ in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, but generally it provides quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice if you need to decrease the costs. It can be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually contains the most basic equipment, such as hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as added pop-out area on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a perfect area to fit extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as the types mentioned before, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable and budget way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have enough time to travel required distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

If you choose to find a shipping company to move your caravan, make sure you know the specific measurements of the caravan. Also check if its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, instruct the hauler about condition of the caravan – like whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers frequently have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of transporting a caravan

Price of shipping a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to get cheaper price.
