Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is frequently associated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, do not forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. It has four sturdy walls and a full height rood. D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and added expandable section on the ends of the vehicle, which is a convienient area to place extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among large families.

E Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types mentioned above, but because of all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable and budget manner of travelling. 

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you decide to hire a shipping company to ship your caravan, check if you know the specific dimensions of the caravan. Additionally check if its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, inform the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.
