Yachts transportation

Shipping a boat calls for certain supplies and careful arrangements. A sailing boat is an awfully fragile as well as expensive load. Possible damages (which can be pretty easy to get) could really lower the yacht’s value. This is the reason it would be best to search for help from an experienced hauler to transport a yacht – his knowledge and abilities will serve as warrant that shipped yacht will safely arrive at its destination.

Nonetheless regardless of whether you decide to hire a transport provider to transport a sailing boat, you still need to make some preparations yourself. First of all, check the precise size of your sailing boat. You can rely on the information given by the manufacturer, however it is always safer to measure the boat yourself, because even minor differences in values can make shipping harder and sometimes even impossible. There are three dimensions you should know when looking for a transport provider for your sailing boat: the length, the height and the beam. Length of the yacht must be measured from the bow all the way to the transom. The sailing boat length shouldn’t include any elements that are located outside of the boat, for example an outboard motor. The yacht’s height should be measured from the keel to the highest point of the vessel. And lastly, the beam – it is checked at the widest point of the boat, which usually means in the middle of the vessel.

Please, note that giving the transport provider the right size of the boat affects not only the safety of the transport but also its price. Moreover, it can also affect the time the transportation may take place – because in some countries the boats beyond a particular length may not be permitted on the road in some times of a day.

Naturally, the safest way to transport a yacht is by using a dedicated boat trailer or a semitrailer (depending on the size of the boat). If you choose to get help from a transport provider, you do not need to worry about securing it properly – the transport provider will take care of that. When searching for a right transport provider, ask if he has a carrier liability insurance, that will entitle you to demand a repayment in case anything happens to your yacht in transportation.

The cost of boat transportation largely depends on the dimensions of the boat as well as how long the route is. Other price-defining factor is the weather – harsh atmospheric conditions can cause the boat to damage. In case there is a risk your boat will be shipped in varying atmospheric conditions, the hauler must secure it properly, which could alter the price of the transportation.
