Yachts transportation

Transporting a yacht demand certain supplies and thorough arrangements. A sailing boat is a very fragile and costly cargo. Any damages (which can be quite simple to get) may really impair the boat’s value. This is why it is best to search for help from a professional hauler to transport a yacht – his knowledge as well as abilities will be your insurance that shipped boat will arrive at its destination without any problems.

However regardless of whether you decide to hire a transport provider to transport a yacht, you need to make some preparations personally. Firstly, check the exact dimensions of your yacht. You can base on the information given by the manufacturer, but it would be safer to measure the yacht yourself, as even slight disparities in values can cause the shipping to be more difficult and sometimes even impossible. You should check 3 different dimensions when searching for a transport provider for your yacht: the length, the height and the beam. Length of the yacht should be measured between the bow and the transom. The yacht length does not include any elements that are located outside of the boat, for example an outboard motor. The yacht’s height should be measured from the keel to the highest point of the vessel. As for the beam – it should be measured where the boat is widest, which usually means near the middle of the boat.

Please, note that giving the transport provider the right dimensions of the boat does not only affect the security of the shipment but also its cost. Moreover, it may also influence the time the shipping may take place – because in some countries the boats beyond a particular length are not allowed to be transported by the road in some times of a day.

Naturally, the most risk-free way to ship a yacht is by using a dedicated boat trailer or a semitrailer (depending on how big the boat is). If you decide to get help from a hauler, you do not need to worry about securing it properly – the transport provider will be obliged to take care of that. While searching for a right hauler, ask if he has a carrier liability insurance, which will entitle you to receive a repayment if anything should happen to your boat in transportation.

The cost of boat shipment largely depends on the size of the yacht and how long the route is. Among the price-defining factors you may also find the weather – harsh atmospheric conditions can cause the boat to damage. If there is a risk your boat will be transported in varying weather conditions, the transport provider will have to shield it against those conditions, which could alter the price of the transportation.
