Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much easier than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular type of caravan. It has four sturdy walls and a full height rood. It might vary in length as well as in the number of rooms, however generally it guarantees quite convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative in case you want to lower the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and usually includes the most basic equipment, such as hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as additional expandable area on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a perfect spot to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but because of all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have enough time to cover necessary route and whether the caravan itself is functional.

In case you decide to hire a transport company to transport your caravan, double-check if you know the exact dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you are likely to pay less.
