Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much easier than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. It has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. It might range in length and in the amount of rooms, still in general it provides pretty satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good choice in case you need to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by most of the cars and usually includes most of the elementary equipment, like hot water or a fridge. It gives you considerable living space however offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as added expandable area on the ends of the vehicle, which is a convienient area to place extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types mentioned above, but thanks to having all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and affordable way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to cover required route and whether the caravan itself is functional.

In case you decide to hire a shipping provider to transport your caravan, verify if you know the precise measurements of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – for example whether lights are fully functional.
