Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is usually correlated with great deal of problems, but actually it is much easier than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has four strong walls and a full height rood. Mentioned type might range in length as well as in the number of rooms, still generally it ensures quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine choice if you need to decrease the costs. It can be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually includes most of the elementary equipment, such as shower or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out area on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a convienient spot to fit additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types described before, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a convenient and economical way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have enough time to travel required distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you want to hire a shipping company to move your caravan, double-check if you have the exact dimensions of the caravan. Additionally check if its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the state of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you are likely to pay less.
