Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually associated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, remember to make sure that your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular type of caravan. This type has four solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can differ in length and in the amount of rooms, still in most cases it guarantees quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine choice in case you want to lower the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by nearly every car , moreover it often contains most of the elementary equipment, such as shower or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out section on the ends of the vehicle, which is a perfect spot to fit extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than the types mentioned above, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable and budget way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to cover necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

In case you choose to hire a transport provider to transport your caravan, make sure you know the precise measurements of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, instruct the hauler about condition of the caravan – like whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Cost of moving a caravan

Price of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of loads}. Other than that , the price is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you are likely to pay less.
