Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently correlated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less complex than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license enables you to do that.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can vary in dimensions and in the amount of rooms, however in most cases it guarantees quite pleasant travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice in case you want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car , moreover it often includes most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as added expandable section on the ends of the van, which is a perfect area to fit extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types mentioned above, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient as well as budget way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have enough time to drive required route and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you want to hire a shipping company to transport your caravan, make sure you know the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – for example whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely pay less.
