Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often associated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common kind of caravan. This type has four strong walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type can range in length as well as in the amount of rooms, however in general it ensures quite satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great alternative if you need to lower the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by nearly every car and usually contains most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out area on the ends of the van, which creates a perfect area to fit extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types described above, but because they provide with the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to travel needed route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you want to find a shipping company to move your caravan, confirm you give them the specific dimensions of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the procedures concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Price of moving a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
