Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often associated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to ship a caravan on your own, remember to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has four sturdy walls and a full height rood. Mentioned type can range in length and in the amount of rooms, however in most cases it ensures pretty comfortable travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine choice if you might want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by most of the cars and usually includes the most basic equipment, like shower or a fridge. It provide you considerable amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out section on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a convienient spot to place extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than the types described before, but because they provide with the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and affordable manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive required distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you choose to find a transport company to ship your caravan, double-check if you give them the precise measurements of the caravan. Moreover check if its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, inform the transport provider about condition of the caravan – for example whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t have to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Price of moving a caravan

Price of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
