Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often correlated with great deal of problems, but actually it is much easier than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, remember to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has four strong walls and a full height rood. Mentioned type might differ in length and in the number of rooms, still in most cases it guarantees quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great alternative if you want to lower the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually contains the most basic equipment, like shower or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable amount of living space however offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out section on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a perfect spot to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types described above, but because of the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable and economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have enough time to cover needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you want to find a shipping company to transport your caravan, check if you have the exact measurements of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, instruct the transport provider about condition of the caravan – like whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t have to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Price of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of loads}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely get cheaper price.
