Yachts transportation

Shipping a yacht requires special equipment as well as precise arrangements. A sailing boat is an awfully prone to damage as well as costly cargo. Any damages (that are pretty easy to obtain) may badly impair the yacht’s value. That’s why it would be best to search for help from a professional hauler to transport a yacht – his knowledge and skills will serve as warrant that shipped boat will arrive at its destination without any problems.

Nevertheless even if you hire a hauler to transport a yacht, you need to do a few things yourself. First of all, check the precise size of your yacht. You can base on the information given by the manufacturer, however it would be safer to take the dimensions of the boat yourself, as even small disparities in values can cause the transport to be more demanding and in some cases even impossible. You should check 3 different dimensions while looking for a hauler for your sailing boat: the length, the height and the beam. Length of the yacht must be measured from the bow all the way to the transom. The yacht length does not include any attachments, e.g. an outboard motor. The height of the yacht is measured between the keel and the highest point of the vessel. And lastly, the beam – it should be measured at the widest point of the boat, which usually means near the middle of the vessel.

Please, note that giving the transport provider the right size of the boat does not only affect the safety of the shipment but also its price. More than that, it may also affect the time the shipping may take place – as in some countries the boats beyond a particular size are not allowed to be transported by the road in certain times of a day.

Naturally, the safest way to ship a sailing boat is to use a dedicated boat trailer or a semitrailer (it mostly depends on the size of the boat). If you decide to get help from a hauler, you do not have to worry about securing it properly – the transport provider will take care of that. When searching for a right transport provider, make sure he has a carrier liability insurance, which will entitle you to demand a repayment in case anything happens to your boat in transportation.

The cost of yacht shipment mostly hinges on the dimensions of the yacht and how long the route is. Among the price-defining factors you may also find the weather – harsh weather conditions can cause the boat to damage. If there is a risk your boat will be shipped in uncertain atmospheric conditions, the transport provider must secure it properly, which may alter the price of the transportation.
