Piano transportation

Pianos and other musical instruments are considered to be fragile cargo. Transporting them sometimes turns out to be quite tricky, not only because almost all of them are prone to damages, but also because all the music instruments are rather valuable. With grand pianos there is additional obstacle: they usually are of massive size as well as weight, which makes it more challenging to transport them safely.

Before getting the piano to the transporting vehicle, remember to secure the lid with some Scotch tape as well as secure the edges of the instrument with some Styrofoam. To make the transportation between the apartment and the transporting vehicle easier, you can use a dolly.

It is impossible to transport a piano without any help. A grand piano often weights up to 661 lbs – it takes approx. six people to safely carry it to the shipping car. Remember that you have to be especially careful during transportation (even weak bumps may cause the instrument to go out of tune and sometimes even lead to real damage). To be safe, it is smart to find a transport provider to transport your instrument.

When looking for a transport provider to transport a piano, it is crucial to specify exactly what will be transported, as not every hauler with enough space in his car to fit a piano should be trusted with shipping musical instruments. The piano must be protected against tilting during sudden turns, but also against any shocks that may happen during transportation. Constant vibrations happening for a long period of time can cause real damage to the instrument.

There is one more benefit in hiring a transport provider to transport your piano. Professional haulers often have a product liability insurance, thanks to which if any damage happens to your valuable cargo, you will be able to demand a compensation.
