Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often associated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much less difficult than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has 4 strong walls and a full height rood. It might vary in dimensions and in the number of rooms, but in most cases it guarantees pretty comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine choice in case you might want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by almost any car , moreover it often includes the most basic equipment, like shower or a fridge. It gives you large living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a perfect spot to place additional beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types described above, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and economical manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to cover necessary route and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you want to find a transport company to move your caravan, make sure you have the exact dimensions of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, warn the transport provider about state of the caravan – for example whether brakes are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, transport providers often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to get cheaper price.
