Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is frequently associated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual kind of caravan. This type has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can differ in length as well as in the number of rooms, yet in general it ensures quite satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great choice in case you might want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car , moreover it usually contains the most basic equipment, such as hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as extra expandable section on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a convienient area to place extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer less living space than the types mentioned before, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to travel necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you want to hire a transport company to ship your caravan, double-check if you have the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, warn the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, transport providers frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely get cheaper price.
