Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually associated with great deal of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular type of caravan. It has four strong walls and a full height rood. It might differ in length and in the number of rooms, however in most cases it ensures pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative in case you want to lower the costs. It can be towed by nearly every car , moreover it often includes most of the elementary equipment, like hot water or a fridge. It gives you considerable living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out section on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a convienient area to place extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types described above, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and budget manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to travel required distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you want to find a transport provider to transport your caravan, confirm you have the exact measurements of the caravan. Additionally check if its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, warn the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t have to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of moving a caravan

Price of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of loads}. Other than that , the price is also affected by the state of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
