Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often correlated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has four solid walls and a full height rood. It might vary in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, but in general it provides quite convenient travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good alternative in case you want to lower the costs. It can be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually includes the most basic equipment, like hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as added expandable area on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a perfect spot to fit additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types described before, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient and affordable way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (for example a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan by yourself – it depends on whether you have enough time to drive necessary route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you decide to hire a shipping provider to transport your caravan, double-check if you give them the specific measurements of the caravan. Moreover confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, inform the hauler about condition of the caravan – like whether lights work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping providers frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Price of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely pay less.
