Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually associated with great deal of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has four sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. It might range in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, but in most cases it provides pretty pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine alternative if you might want to lower the costs. It can be towed by almost any car and often includes most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. It gives you large amount of living space however offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and added expandable section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which creates a convienient spot to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but because of the most needed elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient as well as affordable way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have right amount of time to travel required route and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you want to hire a transport provider to ship your caravan, verify if you give them the precise dimensions of the caravan. Additionally make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, inform the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you will likely pay less.
