Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, remember to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has four strong walls and a full height rood. It might range in dimensions as well as in the number of rooms, yet in most cases it provides quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine choice if you need to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually includes most of the elementary equipment, like hot water and a fridge. It provide you considerable living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, which helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as added expandable section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a convienient spot to place extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types described above, but thanks to having all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and budget way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to drive required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you decide to find a transport company to transport your caravan, confirm you know the precise dimensions of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, inform the transport provider about state of the caravan – for example whether brakes are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Price of transporting a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
