Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is often correlated with great deal of problems, but actually it is much less complex than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan on your own, do not forget to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual type of caravan. It has four strong walls as well as a full height rood. It can vary in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, yet in most cases it guarantees pretty comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine choice in case you need to lower the costs. It can be towed by most of the cars , moreover it often contains most of the elementary equipment, such as shower or a fridge. It gives you large amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and added pop-out section on the ends of the van, which creates a convienient area to fit extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types described above, but because of the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable as well as budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to travel needed distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you decide to find a shipping company to move your caravan, verify if you have the specific dimensions of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, warn the hauler about state of the caravan – for example whether brakes are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of loads}. Additionally, the cost is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you will likely pay less.
