Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently associated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do that.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular type of caravan. It has four strong walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can range in dimensions and in the amount of rooms, but in general it ensures pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great alternative in case you need to decrease the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by nearly every car , moreover it often includes the most basic equipment, like hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out section on the ends of the van, which creates a perfect spot to fit extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than the types mentioned before, but thanks to having all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable and affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to cover required route and whether the caravan itself is working.

If you decide to find a shipping provider to transport your caravan, double-check if you give them the precise measurements of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, instruct the transport provider about condition of the caravan – like whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers frequently have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Cost of moving a caravan

Price of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you are likely to pay less.
