Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular type of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might vary in dimensions and in the number of rooms, but in general it guarantees pretty satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great alternative in case you need to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car and often contains the most basic equipment, such as shower or a fridge. It gives you considerable living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as added expandable section on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a convienient area to fit extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types mentioned before, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a convenient and affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to drive needed route and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you choose to hire a shipping company to ship your caravan, double-check if you give them the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not have to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers often have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of transporting a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also affected by the state of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
