Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is usually associated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has 4 strong walls and a full height rood. Mentioned type can vary in dimensions and in the amount of rooms, however generally it ensures quite convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine alternative in case you want to decrease the costs. It may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually contains the most basic equipment, like hot water and a fridge. It gives you large living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, which helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as added expandable section on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a convienient area to fit additional beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as the types mentioned above, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to cover necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you choose to find a shipping provider to transport your caravan, make sure you give them the specific measurements of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, inform the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Price of shipping a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of loads}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
