Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much easier than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual type of caravan. It has four solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can vary in dimensions and in the amount of rooms, however in general it guarantees quite satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine alternative in case you might want to lower the costs. It can be towed by nearly every car and often contains the most basic equipment, such as shower and a fridge. It provide you considerable amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as extra pop-out area on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a convienient area to fit additional beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than most of the types described above, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient as well as budget way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – it depends on whether you have enough time to drive required route and whether the caravan itself is functional.

In case you choose to find a shipping provider to move your caravan, confirm you have the specific dimensions of the caravan. Moreover check if its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, instruct the hauler about condition of the caravan – like whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of moving a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you will likely pay less.
