Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is usually correlated with great deal of difficulties, but in fact it is much less difficult than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has 4 sturdy walls and a full height rood. 4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out area on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a convienient spot to place extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types mentioned above, but because of the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient as well as budget way of travelling. 

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you decide to hire a transport company to ship your caravan, make sure you have the precise measurements of the caravan. Moreover check if its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, inform the transport provider about state of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.
