Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less difficult than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type can differ in length as well as in the amount of rooms, yet generally it ensures quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine alternative in case you might want to lower the costs. It may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually contains most of the elementary equipment, like shower or a fridge. It gives you large living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as added expandable area on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a perfect spot to place extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types mentioned above, but thanks to having the most needed elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient and economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have enough time to drive required distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you want to hire a transport provider to transport your caravan, check if you know the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, warn the transport provider about state of the caravan – for example whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you will likely get cheaper price.
