Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is frequently associated with great deal of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, remember to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has four strong walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan might range in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, yet generally it provides pretty convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative in case you want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car , moreover it usually contains the most basic equipment, such as hot water or a fridge. It gives you large amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out area on the ends of the van, which is a convienient area to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types described above, but thanks to having the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient as well as economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive necessary route and whether the caravan itself is functional.

In case you choose to hire a shipping company to ship your caravan, confirm you give them the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, inform the hauler about state of the caravan – for example whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping providers often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of moving a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also affected by the condition of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you will likely pay less.
