Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual type of caravan. This type has four solid walls and a full height rood. It might range in length and in the number of rooms, still in general it provides pretty satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great choice in case you need to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually includes the most basic equipment, such as shower and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as additional expandable section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which creates a perfect area to place extra beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than the types mentioned above, but because they provide with the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and budget way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to travel needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you choose to find a shipping provider to transport your caravan, check if you give them the exact dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, warn the hauler about state of the caravan – like whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping providers often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Price of moving a caravan

Price of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also affected by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely get cheaper price.
