Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is often associated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much easier than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan by yourself, do not forget to check if your driving license enables you to do that.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual type of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type can vary in length and in the number of rooms, still in most cases it ensures pretty pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine choice if you need to decrease the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually contains most of the elementary equipment, like hot water and a fridge. It gives you considerable living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, which helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as extra expandable section on the ends of the van, which is a convienient spot to fit extra beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types mentioned before, but because they provide with all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have enough time to travel needed route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you want to find a transport company to transport your caravan, confirm you have the specific measurements of the caravan. Moreover confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, inform the transport provider about state of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of moving a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to get cheaper price.
