Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently correlated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much easier than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, do not forget to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual type of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can vary in length as well as in the amount of rooms, but generally it provides quite satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good alternative in case you want to decrease the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and usually contains most of the elementary equipment, like hot water and a fridge. It provide you considerable amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional expandable area on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which creates a perfect spot to place additional beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a convenient and budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have enough time to cover needed distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you decide to find a transport company to move your caravan, check if you have the exact dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, warn the transport provider about state of the caravan – for example whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the regulations concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Price of shipping a caravan

Price of shipping a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to get cheaper price.
