Tips for preparing for transportation

Furniture transportation

If you are moving to your new home or redecorating your place it’s possible you’ll need furniture transportation. Regardless of whether it’s your old furniture on removal or brand new furniture, furniture shipping is always quite problematic. Naturally the kind of furniture in need of shipment matters – chairs and bedside tables could be transported inside regular car, but a wardrobe or a kitchen table could be problematic to ship. When you have a van at your disposal, you can ship the cargo on your own, however if you don’t, you’ll need assistance from a transport provider. If you are searching for a trustworthy service with a reasonable price, try using a transport marketplace, for example Clicktrans.

Preparing furniture for shipment

When you plan to transport your furniture, there are a couple of steps you should follow, when it comes to preparing them for shipment. Firstly, don’t forget to empty all the furniture – even if the items inside are light. Jolts as well as vibrations are inevitable during transportation and every extra item roaming uncontrollably inside your furniture might become a potential danger. Besides furniture without any content will be lighter and therefore easier to load.

Dismantle every part that you can – if your furniture may be safely disassembled and transported in parts, that’s the best way to ship it. A table in parts is also much easier to fit in a van. The major downside of shipping furniture in pieces is that it takes some time and skill, as improperly disassembled furniture can be hard or downright impossible to put back together after transportation. Other than that – it’s good to be extra careful with all the really small pieces (screws etc.). It’s best to transport them together, e.g. in a Ziploc bag.

Some types of furniture (for example antiques) cannot be dismantled and ought to be transported as a whole. How to transport them securely? The possibility that you have a cardboard big enough to fit a dinner table is not high, however you can still secure your cargo for the time of transportation. While preparing furniture for shipment bubble foil will be essential. Wrap all the fragile places and all the corners with bubble foil to save your load from damaging if anything crashes into it on the road. If you have no bubble foil, you can try using cardboard to secure the corners.

If your furniture has some exceptionally fragile parts (like containing glass or delicate fabrics) you have to be especially careful during shipment. When you can, you should ship them separately, enclosed in thick layer of cloth or bubble foil (all glass shelves should be transported that way). If it’s a part of furniture that cannot be dismantled, enclose it in additional layers of bubble foil. Don’t forget to mention to the hauler that he’s transporting fragile cargo.

As was mentioned above, usually you will require help with transporting furniture. While choosing a transport provider it’s convenient to find out if he offers help with loading as well as unloading. Don’t forget to specify the floor they should be taken from and the floor they must be transported to – as well as if there is an elevator available. &
