If you are in the process of moving to a new home or sprucing your place up by adding some new items it is likely you’ll need furniture transportation. Regardless of whether it’s your old furniture on removal or brand new furniture, furniture shipping is always a challenge. Of course it depends on what kind of furniture needs transportation for example chairs and night tables could fit in regular car, but a wardrobe or a kitchen table might become an issue. When you have a van at your disposal, you can transport the furniture yourself, but in most cases you will require help from a transport provider. In search for a trustworthy service that won’t cost a fortune, try using a transport marketplace, like Clicktrans.
Preparing furniture for shipment
When you need to transport your furniture, there are a couple of steps you have to follow, when it comes to securing them for transportation. First of all, remember to empty all the furniture – even if things inside seem light. Jolts and shocks are almost impossible to avoid during transportation and every extra item moving uncontrollably inside your furniture might become a potential danger. Not to mention that furniture without any content will be lighter and therefore easier to ship.
Dismantle every part that you can – if your furniture may be safely disassembled and shipped in parts, that’s the best way to transport it. A bookcase in pieces is also more simple to fit in a van. The main downside of such a solution is that the disassembling can be time-consuming, as wrongly disassembled furniture might be difficult or even impossible to reassemble in your new home. Also – you must be very careful when shipping small parts (like pins or screws). It’s best to ship them separately, e.g. in a Ziploc bag.
There is furniture (especially antiques) that cannot be disassembled and must be transported in one piece. How to ship them securely? The possibility that you have a cardboard suitable to fit a dinner table is rather small, however there are other ways to secure your cargo for the shipping. When preparing furniture for shipment bubble wrap is essential. Enclose all the delicate places as well as all the corners with bubble wrap to save your cargo from damaging in case anything crashes into it during transportation. If you cannot acquire bubble foil, you can try using cardboard to protect the corners.
If your furniture has some exceptionally delicate parts (for example made of glass) you should be especially careful while transporting it. When you can, it’s best to transport them separately, enclosed in thick layer of cloth and bubble wrap (every glass element should be shipped like that). If it’s a part of furniture that cannot be dismantled, enclose it in additional layers of bubble wrap. Don’t forget to mention to the hauler that he will be transporting fragile load.
As was mentioned above, usually you will require assistance with shipping furniture. While looking for a transport provider it’s smart to determine if he offers help with loading as well as unloading. Remember to specify the floor they should be taken from and the floor they must be transported to – as well as if there is an el … evator available.
If your furniture is valuable (even if it’s just sentimental) you should choose a hauler that has a carrier liability insurance. His services will probably be more expensive, but in case anything happens to your load on the road, you will have right to compensation.
Cost of furniture transportation
Because furniture is a quite wide section, a cost of furniture transportation may vary considerably. When estimating the price of shipment you have to consider the route length, type of job (domestic or international), size and weight of the cargo, if the load is delicate etc. A valid way to lower the cost of furniture shipment is to choose a transport provider who will take your furniture as a partial load – thanks to partial loads you will pay considerably less for the transportation, without losing the quality of the service.
