Tips for preparing for transportation

Furniture transportation

If you are moving to your new home or changing the decor it’s possible you’ll need furniture transportation. Whether it’s your old furniture on removal or recently bought furniture straight from shop, furniture shipping is always a challenge. Naturally the kind of furniture in need of shipment matters – chairs or bedside tables might be transported in your car, but a wardrobe or a kitchen table might be problematic to ship. If you posses a van, you may attempt to ship the load yourself, however in most cases you’ll need help from a transport provider. In search for a trustworthy solution with a reasonable price, try using a transport marketplace, like Clicktrans.

Securing furniture for shipment

When planning to move your furniture, there are rules you might like to follow, while securing them for transportation. Firstly, remember to remove all the contents from the furniture – even if things inside seem light. Some jolts as well as vibrations are almost impossible to avoid on the road and all of the items roaming freely within your furniture may damage it. Besides furniture without any content will be lighter and therefore easier to ship.

Dismantle every part that you can – if your furniture may be dismantled without damage and shipped in parts, it will be the safest way to ship it. A bed in parts is also much easier to fit in a van. The main downside of shipping furniture in pieces is that it takes some time and skill, as wrongly disassembled furniture might be difficult or even impossible to reassemble after transportation. Also – it’s good to be extra cautious with all the really small pieces (screws etc.). It’s best to ship them together, e.g. in a Ziploc bag.

There is furniture (especially antiques) that mustn’t be dismantled and ought to be shipped as a whole. How to ship them securely? Chance that you have a box big enough to fit an armchair is not high, however you can still secure your cargo for the shipping. When preparing furniture for shipment bubble foil is essential. Enclose all the delicate places and all the corners with bubble foil to save your cargo from breaking in case anything crashes into it during shipment. If you don’t have bubble wrap, you can try using cardboard to secure the corners.

If your furniture has some extra delicate parts (like made of glass) you have to take extra care while transporting it. When you can, you should transport them separately, enclosed in protective layers of cloth as well as bubble foil (all glass shelves should be shipped that way). If it’s a part of furniture that can’t be disassembled, enclose it in extra layers of bubble wrap. And remember to inform the hauler that he will be shipping fragile cargo.

As was mentioned above, most of the time you will require assistance with transporting furniture. When looking for a hauler it’s good to determine if he offers help with loading as well as unloading. Don’t forget to mention the floor they should be taken from and the floor they must be transported to – as well as if there is an elevator available.

If your furniture is valuable (even if it’s just sentimental) yo
