Tips for preparing for transportation

How to organize a removal?

Moving to a new apartment is among the most ordinary happenings we can experience in our days. And despite the fact we move at least a few times before settling for good, removals are still among the most nerve-wracking happenings that can happen to us. Just figuring out the logistics of transporting everything you have between houses is an enormous job and with packing, unpacking and selecting the right company to help you with removal, it becomes truly colossal and quite nerve-wracking. Luckily there are couple of things you can do to make the move as efficient as can be and considerably less nerve-wracking.

Packing as well as securing your items for transportation

The most important thing you need to remember while packing is that you should create a coherent list of steps that you’ll have to abide by during the move. It is smart to make an inventory of all the things you want to ship. It will not only make the packing easier but additionally will allow you to check if all of your things were safely shipped to your new home. Removal entails shipping a big amount of various items, including a big amount of little things that can be easily misplaced under the pressure of time – an inventory will help you check if they all made it to the place of destination safely. The next crucial step is labelling all the cardboards as precisely as you can. One of the most useful methods of labelling boxes is by category. For example all the kitchen supplies as well as appliances go into boxes tagged ‘kitchen’, all the duvets and jewellery in the box labelled ‘bedroom’ and so on. You’ll be surprised how much time labelling can save once you start the unpacking. Don’t forget to tag both sides and the top of the box, to make sure that you (as well as the hauler) will be able to recognize which box goes where, regardless of how they will be placed inside the shipping car.

Be extra careful with fragile goods. Wrap them in thick layers of fabric and bubble foil and then tag them clearly (together with a “This way up” label). You also need to make sure that the transport provider knows that he’ll be shipping delicate load as well as which boxes have to be handled with caution.

When you want to transport furniture, it’s crucial to take everything out of them prior to the removal and ship everything that was inside separately. Any unattached things in cupboards or drawers can damage your furniture during shipment. It’s also good to close all the furniture doors and drawers using tape to make sure they cannot open on the road. You may use regular Scotch tape for that. There is also a matter of loading the furniture inside the transporting car. Ahead of trying to move your furniture out of the house, be certain that you’ll be able to transport them via front doors, stairways and into the elevator (if your building has one). If so, you can move them without disassembling (make sure that you have at least one person to assist you!). If they can’t, dismantling them is the only method to move them safely. Be careful with dismantling – make sure you have all the nails as well as screws gathered for example in a Ziploc bag and that you’ve secured all the elements of the furniture properly. Disassembling furniture is also a good idea whenever you need to use the shipping vehicle to the maximum, as dismantled furniture will be much easier to stack efficiently.

When securing minor things, such as books, kitchen appliances, cosmetics etc., boxes will be the most efficient choice. It’s almost certain that you will need more
