Tips for preparing for transportation

How to organize a removal?

Moving to a new house is one of the most ordinary happenings we can experience in our days. And even though we move averagely a few times before settling for good, removals are still some of the most stressful activities possible. Just figuring out the logistics of shipping everything you have between houses is quite a job and with packing, unpacking and choosing the right hauler to help you with removal, it becomes truly huge as well as very stressful. Luckily there are a few ways to make the move as simple as possible and significantly less nerve-wracking.

Packing as well as securing your items for transportation

The most important thing you need to remember while packing is that you should create a coherent list of steps that you’ll have to stick to during the move. It is smart to make an inventory of every item you want to transport. It will not only make the packing easier but additionally will allow you to make sure that all your belongings were successfully transported to your new home. Removal calls for shipping a big amount of stuff, among them a big amount of small things that are easily misplaced under the pressure of time – an inventory will ensure that you will remember to check if they all arrived to the place of destination safely. The next important step is tagging all the boxes as clearly as you are able to. One of the most common methods of tagging boxes is by the room name. So all the kitchen accessories and devices go into boxes labelled ‘kitchen’, all the pillows and personal items in the box labelled ‘bedroom’ etc. You’ll be surprised how much time labelling can save once you start the unpacking. Remember to tag both sides and the top of the box, to make sure that you (and the hauler) can be sure which box goes where, no matter how they will be placed inside the transporting car.

Take special care when preparing to transport delicate items. Enclose them in thick layers of fabric or bubble foil as well as label them in an easily visible place (including a “This way up” label). You should also ensure that the transport provider is aware that he’ll be shipping fragile load and which boxes have to be handled with caution.

When you are shipping furniture, it’s important to take everything out of them prior to the removal as well as ship everything that was inside separately. Any unattached items inside closets and drawers can damage your furniture on the road. Additionally it is good to secure all the furniture doors as well as drawers with some tape so that they won’t open during transportation. You can use regular Scotch tape for that. There is also a matter of loading the furniture inside the shipping car. Ahead of attempting to move your furniture from the apartment, be certain that you’ll be able to transport them through the front doors, stairways and into the elevator (if your building has one). If they do, you’ll be able to move them without dismantling (make sure that you have at least 1 person to help you!). If they cannot, dismantling them is the sole way to ship them without harm. Be careful with dismantling – make sure you store all the nails as well as bolts gathered for example in a Ziploc bag as well as that you’ve secured delicate elements of the furniture properly. Disassembling furniture is also smart whenever you want to use the shipping vehicle to the maximum, because disassembled furniture will take a lot less place.

Whenever packing minor items, such as books, kitchen appliances, decorations and so on, cardboards will be the smartest choice. It’s very
