Moving to a new apartment is one of the most common happenings we can encounter in our days. And even though we change the place we live in at least a few times in our lifetime, removals are still some of the most trying situations that can happen to us. Just figuring out the organization of moving everything you have between houses is an enormous task and when you add securing your belongings for transportation, unpacking and selecting the right transport provider to help you with the move, it seems truly huge and very nerve-wracking. Fortunately there are a few ways to make the move as efficient as possible as well as considerably less nerve-wracking.
Packing as well as securing your belongings for transportation
The most important thing you need to remember while preparing for the removal is that you should create a clear plan that you’ll have to abide by during the move. It is smart to make an inventory of all the things you want shipped. Such a list can not only make the packing easier but also will allow you to check if all of your things were safely shipped to your new home. Removal entails shipping a big amount of various items, including a lot of little items that can be easily misplaced when packed in a hurry – an inventory will help you make sure they all made it to your new home safely. Another important step is tagging all the boxes as clearly as you can. One of the more common methods of labelling cardboards is by category. So all the kitchen accessories as well as devices should be placed into cardboards labelled ‘kitchen’, all the duvets and jewellery in the box labelled ‘bedroom’ etc. You’ll see how time-saving tagging can be once you get to the unpacking part. Don’t forget to tag both sides and the top of the box, so that you (and the transport provider) can be sure which cardboard goes where, no matter how they will be placed inside the shipping car.
Be extra careful with fragile items. Enclose them in protective layers of textiles and bubble wrap and then label them clearly (including a “This way up” label). You also need to make sure that the hauler knows that he’ll be shipping fragile load as well as which cardboards have to be handled with care.
When you want to transport furniture, it’s crucial to empty them before the removal as well as ship everything that was inside separately. Any unattached things inside cupboards and cabinets can harm your furniture during shipment. It’s also smart to secure all the furniture doors and drawers with some tape to make sure they cannot open on the road. You may use regular Scotch tape to do that. There is also a matter of putting the furniture inside the transporting vehicle. Before trying to move your furniture from the apartment, be certain that they will fit via front doors, stairways and into the elevator (if your old apartment has one). If so, you can transport them without dismantling (find at least one person to assist you!). If they cannot, dismantling them is the sole method to move them without harm. Be cautious with that – make sure you have all the pins and bolts gathered like in a Ziploc bag and that you’ve secured delicate elements of the furniture properly. Disassembling furniture is also a good idea whenever you need to fill the transporting vehicle to the maximum, because disassembled furniture will take a lot less place.
Whenever packing smaller items, such as magazines, kitchen appliances, decorations and so on, cardboards will be the smartest choice. It’s most likely that you will need more boxes than you have … – however there is a few ways to acquire some more. Firstly you can acquire new cardboards in all home-improvement or construction stores. However as you’ll most likely need quite a few cardboards, you may decide upon a more economical way. Go to your local stores and ask if they have some boxes they don’t need any more. Stores usually have a lot of unnecessary boxes and most of the time they are willing to share.
Another options, instead of boxes will be using bags, particularly for transporting clothes and little items. There is a much higher possibility that you will find the bags at home. As mentioned, bags will be a sufficient choice when storing clothes, magazines as well as little items, there are some downsides, though. Bags are much less durable than boxes and prone to breaking, if you decide to use them for storing items with hard corners (like books, stationery and so on). Moreover – placing bags on top of each other is much harder than stacking boxes in similar fashion.
One of the most difficult things to ship are houseplants. It is usually safest to ship them by yourself, however if for some reason you cannot do that, make sure that the transport provider is aware of what he is going to ship. A day prior to the removal water the plants generously and give them a moment. It’s crucial that the plants have enough water to endure the shipment, but also to allow them to take in what they can prior to putting the plants in a box (you must get rid of the excess water from the saucer, to make sure it won’t soak through the box).
Choosing the right transport provider
Certainly, aside from suitably securing your load for the time of transportation, it is equally crucial to find a suitable transport provider. Which factors must you acknowledge when making your decision? Cost of the service, obviously, is important, especially on longer, international routes, but it’s just one of the things to consider. When transporting everything you have you should in the first place think if your cargo will be safe when given to the hauler. When posting your listing on a transport marketplace, such as Clicktrans, you not only may ask prospective haulers all the questions you require an answer to before making your decision about a hauler but also you may check out reviews left by former customers on every transport provider’s profile page. Not much is more reliable than feedback left by someone who’s already used the services of the transport provider you are considering.
Prices of removal
Price of removal is quite difficult to estimate, as it varies considerably due to the weight and dimensions of the cargo or how long the route is. If your removal consist of many delicate things, the price is probable to go up. The same goes for international removals – domestic routes are usually cheaper than moving your load into another country.
