Tips for preparing for transportation

How to organize a removal?

Moving to a new house is among the most common happenings we can encounter in our days. And even though we move at least a few times in our lifetime, removals are still among the most stressful activities that can happen to us. Just figuring out the logistics of transporting everything you have from one place to another is a very large task and when you add packing, unpacking and selecting the right hauler to assist you with removal, it becomes really colossal and very nerve-wracking. Fortunately there are couple of things you can do to make the move as efficient as possible and considerably less stressful.

Packing and securing your items for transportation

One crucial thing you have to remember while preparing for the removal is that you should create a precise plan that you’ll have to stick to during the move. It is smart to create a list of every item you want to transport. It will not only help you pack but additionally will allow you to check if all your belongings were successfully transported to its place of destination. Removal calls for transporting a big amount of stuff, including a lot of little items that can be easily forgettable when packed in a hurry – a list will help you check if they all made it to the place of destination safely. Another crucial step is labelling all the boxes as clearly as you are able to. One of the most helpful ways of labelling cardboards is by the room name. So all the kitchen accessories and appliances go into cardboards tagged ‘kitchen’, all the duvets as well as blankets in the box labelled ‘bedroom’ and so on. You’ll quickly find out how time-saving tagging can be once you start the unpacking. Don’t forget to label both sides and the top of the cardboard, to make sure that you (and the transport provider) can be sure which cardboard goes where, regardless of how they will be placed inside the shipping vehicle.

Take special care when preparing to transport delicate items. Enclose them in protective layers of fabric or bubble wrap as well as tag them in an easily visible place (together with a “This way up” sign). You also need to ensure that the hauler knows that he’ll be transporting fragile load and which boxes requires handling with care.

When it comes to furniture, it’s important to take everything out of them prior to the removal as well as ship all the things inside separately. Any unattached items in closets and cabinets can harm your furniture on the road. Additionally it is good to secure all the furniture doors as well as drawers with some tape to make sure they cannot open on the road. You can use regular Scotch tape for that. Another issue is the matter of loading the furniture into the shipping vehicle. Before attempting to move your furniture out of the apartment, make sure that they will fit through the front doors, stairways or into the elevator (if your building has one). If so, you’ll be able to transport them without disassembling (be sure to have at least 1 person to help you!). If they can’t, dismantling them is the only way to move them without harm. Be cautious with dismantling – be sure to store all the nails as well as bolts gathered for example in a Ziploc bag and that you’ve secured delicate elements of the furniture properly. Dismantling furniture is also a good idea when you need to fill the shipping vehicle to the maximum, as disassembled furniture will take a lot less place.

When securing smaller items, such as magazines, kitchen appliances, decorations and so on, boxes will be the most efficient choice. It’s most li
