Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually associated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much easier than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan might vary in length and in the number of rooms, still in most cases it ensures pretty convenient travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great choice if you need to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car , moreover it usually contains most of the elementary equipment, like hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as extra expandable area on the foot and the head of the van, which is a perfect area to fit extra beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types described above, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable as well as affordable way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to cover required distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you choose to find a shipping provider to move your caravan, check if you give them the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, warn the transport provider about state of the caravan – like whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of moving a caravan

Price of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also affected by the condition of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you are likely to get cheaper price.
